Blog Tune-ups

 Hi all!

With apologies for the short break in postings -- I'm currently in Morocco suffering from overnourishment and an excess of sun, if you must know -- I'd like to gather some feedback on the blog and suggest a few changes.

Suffering in Morocco

The blog has a bit of content under its belt and has gradually taken on its current bulbous state. No apologies for indulging my interests here -- old gear tear-downs especially -- and I try to throw in the odd volunteer interview, though it's not my forte. Recently the redesigned Free Geek Vancouver website launched (and it looks great -- thanks for all the hard work, folks!) and now that it links here there has been quite a of a spike in traffic.

It's been fun so far and I'm looking forward to continuing.

Spotted within two blocks of FG: so close, and yet so far...

I'd like to offer anyone else who is interested the opportunity to contribute posts, if they don't mind me playing benevolent editor/curator. As long as it relates to Free Geek, the field is open; it would be especially nice to hear from people that I don't get the chance to work with, and since I'm only in on Thursdays, that shouldn't be too difficult.

The next Free Geek AGM is on the horizon, and I'd like to branch out a little bit and cover some of that aspect of the organization -- what the board's duties are, what long-term changes are on the horizon for the organization, etc. -- and also to provide more visibility for that end of Free Geek Vancouver, as it takes a lot of effort to keep things running smoothly. I think the current board is doing a fantastic job and doesn't get enough credit. Stay tuned for that.

I'd also like to visit the Free Geek Mother Ship in Portland and provide a virtual tour for Free Geek Vancouverites who haven't been there yet.

Thank you to those who have read and commented over the last months, and feel free to make any suggestions! Is there an aspect of Free Geek Vancouver that you're curious about, or an experience or thought you'd like to make its way here?

  1. I wouldn't change a thing. You reveal your passion for what you do at Free Geek, and that's partly why it's a good read. One thing I'd like to hear more about is the Open Classroom Project, are you getting involved with that? Keep up the good work!

  2. Tadkistani, you interrupted the tumbleweeds :) I was volunteered for some of the command-line parts of the Open Classroom Project but haven't been involved beyond that. Do you know if it's moved beyond the initial planning stage? Free Geek Vancouver has always had vague plans for a more comprehensive educational component, but never got it off the ground; I hope Open Classroom Project will be able to change that.

Well, I know from the stats that there are more of you out there, so I'll take silence as consent. Onward and upward.
